REMEMBRANCE DAY INFORMATION

CONCERT ATTIRE for our Remembrance Day Ceremony this Thursday morning: Choral Student Attire for this event is ALL BLACK including shoes, socks tights, hairbands, shoelaces, etc..NO JEANS.  Bring some money to donate for a poppy.  Rehearsal will be first period in the gym, exact time TBA. Birdplane and Chamber Choir will be called down when the sound set up is ready.  The Choral part of the presentation will involve the following: O Canada - Miranda Holod In the Light of a Clear Blue Morning - Birdplane, featuring Miranda Holod and Maddy Reimer (Sung During the Laying of the Wreaths) Earth Song - Chamber Choir (end of the Arts Presentation - Last on the Program - Charlize will advance the slides during this song) I'll post the entire program as soon as it's available. Then, students can map out their plan for the Ceremony. Service begins at 11AM, and all of you need to be in the gym on the choral risers by 10:50 AM .

Rock of Ages High School Edition, a family-friendly rock/jukebox musical, is a rising star love story about a boy and a girl who meet in Hollywood. Built around classic rock songs from the 1980s, this show features the music of famous glam metal bands of that decade: Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison and MORE! Hey There, Everyone! Welcome Back! Sounds like you all had a GREAT summer! Here’s the Choral Calendar Update: First Vocal Jazz class is on Monday at lunch. Chamber Choir will be held on Days 2,4,6 starting on Tuesday September 12th to avoid conflict with Sr. Jazz. Musical Theatre WILL begin tomorrow (Thursday, Sept. 7th), at 3:45PM. Auditions will be held at 12:20 on June 12 and 13 AND 19th in the choral room. Audition information is posted on Edmodo and the Westwood Choral Blogspot page. There is a sign up sheet posted on the choral room office window. Part 1: The audition song is “Fly Me To The Moon” by Frank Sinatra. Refer to this recording while practicing: This karaoke will be used for the audition: Use a microphone, "make this song YOUR OWN" i.e. add melodic embellishments; jazzify the song in your own way; add some improvisation - using the text or with scat syllables; and, remember really PERFORM the song by moving to the music and completely engaging in the tune. Sing from memory, and if you forget the lyrics, take a page from Ella Fitzgerald's book, and scat or improvise your way through until you r

Westwood's Open House Tonight!

So cool for our Westwood Choral students to have Jonathan Alexiuk as our composer-in-residence this year, thanks to a grant from the Manitoba Foundation for Choral Music! He'll be here with our singers tonight for a Sing-A-Long at Westwood's Open House! Here's a flashback to one of his awesome performances at Solo Night!

MUSIC CELEBRATION THIS MONDAY FEB. 6TH!

Hello Chamber Choir & all Vocal Jazz Students, Here are the details for our upcoming performance at Music Celebration on Monday, Feb. 6th at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 203 Thompson Drive: -Transportation to and from this event is by private vehicle i.e. you need to arrange your own ride. Concert Dress will be worn i.e. all black - women with pashminas; men in suits & solid-coloured ties. -The Chamber Choir will sing Sure on this Shining Night and Loch Lomond, with warm up at 4:40PM downstairs in the Sturgeon Room, and performance in the upstairs Sanctuary at 5:10PM. Students are free to leave after the adjudication at 5:30PM.  -The Westwood Glee Club will sing Lava and Seize the Day.  Warm-up is at 5:30 PM in the Sturgeon Room, and performance is at 5:50 PM upstairs. Students are free to leave after the adjudication at 6:10PM. -Parents are welcome. Admission is free. -All students are required to stay for the performance AND adjudication

Students, please mark you calendars, and book off work now, to be sure you are available for these dates: Feb. 6th is Music Celebration at Sturgeon Creek United Church, for the Chamber Choir singing Sure on this Shining Night, and Loch Lomond; and the Westwood Glee Club singing Lava and Seize the Day, beginning at 5:10 PM. More Details to follow - I will update this post. Feb. 15th is Westwood's Open House - We'll set up a table in the hall, and feature some choral student volunteers. CMP Coffee House - Feb. 23rd, 7PM San Vito Coffee Feb. 27th - Westwood Glee Club performs Lava and Seize the Day at the Winnipeg Music Festival at Westminster United Church. The class begins at 12:30 PM, and our choir is 4th in the order, which will likely mean we perform at 1:15PM (assuming there are no cancellations before our turn) Mar. 6th Chamber Choir performs at the Winnipeg Music Festival at Westminster United Church.
